ChemSec is looking for a Project Manager
– Working to reduce hazardous chemicals in society
ChemSec (the International Chemical Secretariat) is an environmental NGO based in Gothenburg working to limit the use of hazardous chemicals in society. ChemSec highlights the need to phase out hazardous chemicals and influence and speed up legislative processes mainly in the EU, but also globally. We drive projects that highlight the risks of hazardous chemicals and the need for safer alternatives. ChemSec develops tools e.g. the SIN list for companies and other actors, helping them to reduce the use of toxic chemicals and have an efficient chemicals management system.
We cooperate with and enhance dialogue between authorities, politicians, scientists and progressive companies and investors.
About the position
This is a role with a wide scope – sometimes you will lead and take charge of issues, and at other times you will follow. Initially you will be part of the team working on one of our projects, an online platform, that is designed to support companies working to reduce their toxic footprints. The foundation of the project is built on a business-to-business model, meaning you will have lots of external contacts with different stakeholders, arrange meetings and generate interest for the project. You will also interact with consultants (for example in IT) and make sure the development of the online platform runs smoothly and on schedule.
In addition to being part of this project, you will also represent ChemSec in various other contexts and projects, targeting policy makers, companies and financial investors. You will travel frequently within Europe.
About the new co-worker we are looking for
- You have an academic education in chemistry, environmental science, engineering and/or experience of working with chemical-related issues in an organisation or company.
- You have experience of taking responsibility, driving your own initiatives and making sure they come to life.
- Additionally, experience from working with supply chain management or product development and knowledge about environmental/chemical issues is highly desirable. An understanding of and experience with chemical legislation such as REACH is also desirable.
- Our working language is English – any additional language skills would be an advantage. Swedish is not a requirement.
We are a small, dynamic team of experts from different areas, including chemicals, toxicology, policy, finance and communication. Therefore, we rely on teamwork and the ability to adapt our skills according to the situation. You need to be flexible and do the same.
It is also very important that you enjoy working independently, are able to think strategically and have an interest in the way political issues are pursued. You are keen to work for an NGO that is striving to reduce the use of hazardous chemicals in society.
Presentations, meetings and external interactions will be a regular part of your work, so we are looking for a colleague who is outgoing and enjoys giving talks.
