Another 15 substances suggested for REACH candidate list

EU member states have recommended 15 more chemicals for addition to the REACH candidate list at the end of the year, according to the European Chemicals Agency, ECHA. More than half of the substance dossiers have been submitted by Germany.

The 15 new substances include a number of perfluorinated acids and phthalates. However, of particulate interest are some of the proposals from Germany and the United Kingdom who have suggested the inclusion of octylphenol etoxilates, nonylphenol isomers and the well known and frequently used flame retardant Deca-BDE.

Five of the submissions are suggested to be included on the REACH candidate list as 'equivalent concern' substances (including octylphenol etoxilate and nonylphenol), five due to PBT properties (including Deca-BDE and the perfluorinated substances) and five due to their CMR properties (including the phthalates).

The 15 newly suggested substances have been added to the European Chemicals Agency's Registry of submitted SVHC intentions on 6th of August.
