ChemSec is looking for a part-time communications officer for a temporary employment. If you fit the description below and want to work for a young and inspiring environmental NGO, please apply before 22nd September.
ChemSec (the International Chemical Secretariat) is an environmental NGO based in Göteborg, Sweden, working to limit the use of hazardous chemicals in society. We highlight the need to speed up legislative processes mainly in the EU, but also globally. We carry out projects to identify the most important hazardous chemicals and highlight the safer alternatives. We also develop concrete tools for companies to help reduce the use of toxic chemicals. We cooperate with and enhance dialogue between authorities, politicians, scientists and progressive companies and investors.
We are a small, dynamic team of experts from different areas, including chemistry, toxicology, law, policy, finance and communication. Our office is situated in central Göteborg but all our work is directed towards an international audience and we also have co-workers located in other countries. Therefore all our communication is in English.
About the position and the skills you need to succeed
The position involves practical responsibility for written communication. We are looking for a person who does not shy away from producing a lot of text, as writing both long and short texts will be your primary duty. You have an academic education in communications or a similar field. You are a self-starter, comfortable with working independently and you deliver on time. Your style of writing is efficient and straightforward, and it doesn’t hurt if you are a bit of a storyteller. Previous experience as a journalist/blogger is especially advantageous.
You thrive at writing so called desk reports, meaning you are able to quickly sift through large amounts of information written by others, identify the most relevant parts and compile it into a written story of your own. As a communications officer you might also do editing and proofreading of other staff members’ texts. It is therefore a requirement that you are a native English speaker.
It is an advantage if you have previous experience in covering environmental topics, EU environmental legislation or corporate sustainability work.
The right person does not need to be based in Göteborg. It is however required that you are in a European time zone as you will have regular Skype meetings with ChemSec’s Communications Manager, to whom you will also report.
It is an advantage if you have experience from working with WordPress.
Details about the position and how to apply
This is a temporary position, part-time (50%), running for roughly six months with a fixed monthly salary. We would like you to start as soon as possible, and if we find the right candidate we may fill the position before the application deadline.
To achieve a good balance in our team, we would especially appreciate male applicants.
If you have any questions, please contact ChemSec’s Communications Manager Peter Pierrou, +46 739 98 49 01 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
