Background

Almost all the stuff around us relies on man-made chemicals. However, many of these are hazardous and have been linked to cancer, neurological issues, and a dramatic decline in sperm count among men. Perhaps the most problematic are “forever chemicals” (PFAS) that don’t break down, and many of which are toxic. They are now in the bloodstream of basically every person on the planet and have even been detected in rainwater in Tibet. But PFAS is not only a systemic risk; upcoming regulations in the EU may transform every single supply chain in the world, and the multi-billion dollar lawsuits in the US may eclipse those of asbestos.

About the organiser

ChemSec is a Swedish NGO that coordinates an $11 trillion investor network called the Investor Initiative on Hazardous Chemicals (IIHC). It aims to reduce the financial risks from hazardous chemicals via engagements with the largest chemical manufacturers in the world.

Learn more about the issue and the IIHC at this morning session.
