This is what it takes to make circular economy work
What is the one key thing that is needed for circular economy to work? That the Ikea’s, Apple’s and H&M’s of the world see a value in recycled materials and re-use it in new products on a large scale.
That’s it! That is the cornerstone of it all. If industry is not interested in using recycled materials, who is going to complete the circle and make it go round and round?
The good thing here is that many companies are usually very positive towards using recycled material, but only if it is free from hazardous substances. That’s why recyclers must be able to show exactly what their secondary material contains. If they can’t manage that, it will be tough for the industry to grow and make the circular economy successful.
So yes, hazardous chemicals really are important to consider for circular economy to work.
But don’t take our word for it. We’ve actually asked industry ourselves, so you don’t have to do it.
