About the role

One of ChemSec’s main activities is to get policymakers and businesses to address sustainability challenges, especially those related to hazardous chemicals in products and processes. We are now looking to expand our dynamic team with another person with chemical expertise, focusing on safer alternatives, to join us in this challenge.

You will use a structured approach to analyse and extract insights from chemical data, contributing to a deeper understanding of sustainability issues connected to hazardous chemicals. Together with your colleagues, you will develop and maintain several online chemical management tools, always ensuring high quality and relevance for the target audience. You will be responsible for finding information and maintaining the ChemSec Marketplace, a digital platform where buyers and suppliers of safer alternatives can connect. Another part of your job will be making complex chemical information understandable for individuals without chemical backgrounds.

This role offers a wide range of inspiring tasks. In some projects, you will take the lead, while in others, you will support your colleagues. The role also includes participating in external meetings and being in contact with different stakeholders.

The perfect candidate

  • Academic education in chemistry, environmental science or engineering.
  • Experience working with chemical-related issues, as well as handling and interpreting chemical data.
  • Proactive, takes ownership of tasks and is committed to turning ideas into action.
  • Likes to pick up the phone and call chemical companies for additional information.
  • A couple of years of experience, but no need to be a senior. Instead, willing to join an experienced team and learn how things work.
  • Experience from working with supply chain management, product development and/or substitution of hazardous chemicals is advantageous.
  • Knowledge about environmental chemistry is a plus, as is an understanding of and experience with chemical legislation (e.g., REACH).

ChemSec’s working language is English.

We are a small but growing, dynamic team of experts from diverse fields, including chemicals, toxicology, policy, finance, and communication. Teamwork is essential to our success, and we adapt our skills to meet the challenges we face. We value flexibility and the ability to adjust to different situations.

You enjoy working independently, and are eager to work for an NGO dedicated to reducing the use of hazardous chemicals in society.

Position details and application process

Permanent full-time position with a six-month probationary period. The position is available to start immediately.

We work from the office in central Gothenburg, Sweden, at least three days a week and would prefer to see you based here. However, for exceptional candidates, there can be some flexibility. We offer a competitive salary, reduced working hours, a considerable wellness allowance and six weeks’ vacation, among many other things.
